Privacy Notice

Who we are

The Profession is operated by Profession Sector Holdings (ABN: 45 835 398 204). We are committed to protecting the privacy of contributors and users of our platform in accordance with the Australian Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and the Australian Privacy Principles.

What information we collect

When you submit an article through the contributor portal, we collect the following personal information:

  • Your full name
  • Your email address
  • Your professional title and organisation
  • Your jurisdiction
  • Your author bio
  • Your profile photograph (if provided)
  • Your LinkedIn URL and website URL (if provided)
  • Any conflicts of interest you disclose
  • The content of your submission, including your article and any images you upload

How we use your information

We use the information you provide to:

  • Review and process your submission
  • Communicate with you about your submission (acceptance, revision requests, publication)
  • Publish your author bio, photo, and article on The Profession platform if your submission is accepted
  • Maintain a record of contributors for editorial purposes
  • Improve our contributor portal and editorial processes

Who we share your information with

We do not sell your personal information to third parties. We may share your information with:

  • Our email service provider for the purpose of sending you transactional emails about your submission. Our email service provider processes data in accordance with its own privacy policy.
  • Our database provider for the purpose of storing submission data securely.
  • Members of The Profession editorial team who need access to review and process submissions.

If your article is accepted and published, your author name, bio, photo, and the content of your article will be publicly visible on The Profession platform.

How long we keep your information

  • Submission data (including declined submissions) is retained for 3 years from the date of submission for editorial record-keeping purposes.
  • Published author profiles and articles are retained for as long as the content remains published on The Profession.
  • You may request deletion of your personal information at any time (see ‘Your rights’ below). Note that deletion of a published author profile may require removal of associated published articles.

Your rights

Under the Australian Privacy Act, you have the right to:

  • Access the personal information we hold about you
  • Request correction of inaccurate or out-of-date personal information
  • Request deletion of your personal information, subject to our legal obligations and legitimate business needs
  • Make a complaint about our handling of your personal information

Complaints

If you are not satisfied with our response to a privacy complaint, you may lodge a complaint with the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC) at www.oaic.gov.au.

Changes to this notice

We may update this privacy notice from time to time. The current version will always be published on the contributor portal. Your continued use of the contributor portal after an update constitutes acceptance of the updated notice.
