Contributor Terms & Conditions

Applies to all article submissions made through The Profession contributor portal · Last updated: May 2026

Please read these terms carefully before submitting content to The Profession. By completing the submission form and checking the declarations, you agree to be bound by these terms.

1. Definitions

  • ‘The Profession’, ‘we’, ‘us’ refers to Profession Sector Holdings, the operator of The Profession platform at www.theprofession.au.
  • ‘Contributor’, ‘you’ refers to any person submitting content through the contributor portal.
  • ‘Submission’ refers to any article, piece, or content submitted through the contributor portal.
  • ‘Published Content’ refers to any submission that has been accepted and published on The Profession platform.

2. Originality and ownership

  • You confirm that your submission is your own original work.
  • You confirm that your submission has not been previously published, in whole or in part, in any publication, website, blog, social media platform, or other medium, or is otherwise declared as such and accepted by The Profession for republication with permission.
  • You confirm that your submission does not infringe the intellectual property rights of any third party, including copyright, trade marks, or moral rights.
  • You retain copyright in your submission at all times. These terms do not transfer ownership of your work to The Profession.

3. Licence to publish

  • By submitting, you grant The Profession a non-exclusive, royalty-free, worldwide licence to publish, display, distribute, and promote your submission on The Profession platform and its associated channels (including social media, newsletters, and syndicated content).
  • This licence includes the right to edit your submission for clarity, length, accuracy, house style, and legal compliance, and to publish the edited version.
  • You will be notified of any substantive edits before publication.
  • This licence continues for as long as the content remains published on The Profession platform. If The Profession removes your content, the licence ceases with respect to future use but does not apply retrospectively to past publication.

4. Accuracy and responsibility

  • You are responsible for the accuracy and completeness of all factual claims in your submission.
  • The Profession does not independently verify all factual claims made in contributor articles. Publication does not constitute endorsement of the views or claims expressed.
  • You confirm that your submission does not contain false or misleading statements of fact.
  • You confirm that your submission does not defame any person or entity.
  • You confirm that your submission complies with all applicable laws, including the Australian Consumer Law, the Defamation Act, and any applicable professional conduct rules.

5. No legal advice

  • You confirm that your submission does not constitute, and is not intended to constitute, legal advice.
  • You agree to The Profession publishing a standard disclaimer alongside your article stating that the content is for informational purposes only and does not constitute legal advice.

6. Conflicts of interest

  • You confirm that you have disclosed all material conflicts of interest in your submission form, or that no such conflicts exist.
  • Failure to disclose a material conflict of interest may result in correction of the published article, republication with disclosure, or removal, at The Profession's discretion.

7. Indemnity

You indemnify The Profession and its officers, employees, and agents against any claims, damages, losses, and costs (including legal costs) arising from any breach of these terms, any inaccuracy or misrepresentation in your submission, or any claim by a third party arising from your submission.

8. Editorial decisions

  • The Profession reserves the right to accept, reject, or request revisions to any submission at its sole discretion, without being required to provide reasons.
  • Submission does not guarantee publication.
  • The Profession reserves the right to remove Published Content at any time, including where it is found to be inaccurate, defamatory, in breach of these terms, or otherwise contrary to The Profession's editorial standards.

9. No payment

  • Contributions to The Profession are unpaid unless a specific written agreement to the contrary exists between you and The Profession.
  • Acceptance of your submission does not create an employment, contractor, or agency relationship between you and The Profession.

10. Republication

  • Once published on The Profession, your article may not be republished in substantially the same form on another platform without The Profession's written consent.
  • You may quote from, link to, or refer to your published article on any platform at any time.
  • You may republish your article after giving The Profession 30 days written notice, provided that the republished version includes a note that the article was originally published on The Profession, with a link.

11. Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of Victoria, Australia. Any disputes arising from these terms will be subject to the jurisdiction of the courts of that state.

12. Changes to these terms

The Profession may update these terms from time to time. The current version will always be published on the contributor portal. Submissions made after the update date are subject to the updated terms.
